Clay County Information
Clay County is found southwest of Jacksonville and has a population of about 200K residents. The county is a part of the Jacksonville Metro area and the county seat is Green Cove Springs. It also includes Orange Park, Keystone Heights, Penney Farms, Lake Geneva, Middleburg, Fleming Island and many other communities.
The county was named after famous American statesman Henry Clay and was created out of a section of Duval County in 1858. Henry Clay was a member of the United States Senate and the United States Secretary of State.
Clay County was once a very popular place for tourists because of the therapeutic, warm springs and the mild climate. It also has a long military history, which includes Camp Blanding and the flight training center Lee Filed, which was used during World War II.
